Warranty, Insurance Claims and Roadside Assistance

Warranty and insurance work is mostly paperwork, and the paperwork is the part that stalls a repair. We write the estimate, file it, and deal with the carrier so you are not the one on hold. Separately and worth knowing: under federal law, having routine service done here does not void your factory warranty.

What it usually turns out to be

You do not need a diagnosis to call. Describe what it is doing and we will tell you whether it is a shop job.

The carrier has had it for a week and nobody can tell you anything

Usually the claim is waiting on something specific: a photograph, a teardown, a part number, an adjuster's sign-off. We would rather find out which and go get it than let the file sit. Ask us where it actually is and you should get a real answer, not a status.

You were told to take it to the selling dealer, sixty minutes away, for routine service

Worth knowing that a manufacturer generally cannot void your warranty simply because routine maintenance was done somewhere else. That is federal law, not our opinion, and it is set out in more detail on the preventative maintenance page. Genuine warranty repairs, recalls and software updates are a different thing and those do belong with the dealer.

The estimate came back lower than the repair actually costs

Common, and usually a documentation problem rather than a dispute. What gets approved follows what gets shown, so we photograph, we itemize and we write it up properly the first time. If a supplement is needed we file one.

Something happened on the road and you are a long way from your home shop

Gardnerville sits where it sits, which is on the way over the Sierra and near enough to Tahoe that a fair number of people meet their trouble around here. We can write an estimate for your carrier and deal with them from here. Say up front that you are traveling, because it changes how we sequence the work.

What we do

  • Extended warranty claims filed on your behalf
  • Insurance claim coordination and estimates
  • Damage estimates written for a carrier
  • Scheduled and unscheduled warranty work
  • Parts sourcing through the claim

What we do not do here

  • We do not decide what your policy covers. The carrier does. What we control is the estimate and how well the claim is documented, and that is usually what determines the answer.
  • We are not publishing a list of carriers and administrators we work with. Call and ask about yours. That is a more honest answer than a list that implies a billing arrangement we may not have with your particular company.
  • We are not offering roadside assistance on this page. If you are stranded right now, call and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot do rather than sending someone who is not coming.
  • We are a shop, not a mobile service. For claim work that mostly helps: an adjuster can come to the vehicle, the vehicle stays put, and nothing is waiting on a mobile tech being free.

Before you call, have this handy

None of it is required. It just gets you a real answer on the first call instead of the second.

The policy or contract itself, not just the company name

Extended warranty contracts vary enormously in what they cover and in who has to authorize what. The document answers questions that a phone call to the carrier takes a week to answer.

Your claim number, if one has been opened

And who you spoke to. Picking up an existing claim is faster than starting a parallel one, and duplicate files are a common way for a repair to stall.

What happened, in the order it happened

Especially for damage. Sequence matters to an adjuster in ways it does not to a mechanic, and the account you give us on day one is the one that goes in the file.

Whether you are traveling

It changes everything about how we schedule. If the rig is your accommodation, or you have a date you have to be somewhere, say so first rather than last.

Questions

Questions we get asked

Do you work with my extended warranty company?

Call and ask about yours specifically. We would rather check than publish a list of company names that implies a billing arrangement we might not have with the one you hold.

Will having you service it void my factory warranty?

No. Under federal law a manufacturer generally cannot void your warranty just because routine maintenance or repairs were done elsewhere. Keep your receipts and the record of the work, which is what makes it straightforward. The full version of this, including where the line actually falls, is on the preventative maintenance page.

Do you handle the paperwork or do I?

We do. That is most of what this page is about. You should not have to project-manage your own repair, and the file moves faster when the person writing the estimate is the person talking to the carrier.

How long does a claim take?

It depends on the carrier far more than on us, and anyone promising you a date is promising you somebody else's timeline. What we will do is tell you what the claim is currently waiting on, in plain language, whenever you ask.

What if the carrier will not cover all of it?

That happens. You will get the estimate and the carrier's response side by side, so you can see exactly what is covered, what is not, and what the gap is before you decide anything. No work goes ahead that you have not authorized.

I am traveling and my home shop is a long way away. Can you help?

Yes, and it is worth telling us that first. We can write the estimate and deal with your carrier from here. Where you are in the trip changes what we do first, so tell us your dates.

Do you offer roadside assistance?

Not something we are advertising here. If you are stuck, call the shop and we will tell you plainly what we can do rather than have you wait on something that is not coming.

Talk to someone who works on these

Call the shop and we will tell you the soonest realistic date rather than book you and hold your rig. Mon-Fri 8:00 - 5:00, Saturday 8:00 - 12:00.
